The Art Gallery of Sudbury invites you to a major exhibition by Sudbury visual artist Jocko Chartrand titled Brightly shining. The exhibition features many works that were created in the Whitewater Lake area of Azlida, as well as elsewhere in Sudbury.

Jocko Chartrand is a senior visual artist who has been exhibiting his work since 1973 in Toronto and the Sudbury region. He studied fine arts at Cambrian College with a focus in painting and engraving. Jocko Chartrand’s first solo show was in 1976 at Rothman’s Gallery in Sudbury. His extensive exhibition history includes shows with La Slague, la Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, the Fringe Festival, and the Laurentian University Museum and Art Center (now the Art Gallery of Sudbury). He was also part of The Cedar Collective, a collective of Sudbury artists including Heather Topp and Ron Langin.

Brightly shining is a collection of paintings and drawings from 1969 to 2017. These vibrantly coloured works reflect the artist’s multi-media approach to subjects that he has encountered in everyday life. This exhibition focuses on his use of light and colour.

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is glad to be able to exhibit many of Jocko Chartrand's works that have not been exhibited before, and thank the artist for access to his portfolios.
