Friendship Blanket Workshop
In this interactive workshop, artist Barry Ace will lead the discussion on the historical significance of the trade blanket and the gifting of blankets in Indigenous cultures.
The participants will focus their work on designing and creating a personalized story-telling blanket strip that is to be attached to a blanket upon its completion, with the thought of gifting it to a special friend or relative. The blanket strip should be a personalized visual narrative that utilizes writing, drawings or collage techniques and may address a variety of themes including identity, culture, memory, place, history, events, environment, stories, and family lineage to mention a few.
The workshop is limited to 15 participants and is suitable for individuals 15 years of age and older.
Duration: 2 hours. From 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Supplies: All supplies are provided in the workshop, but participants may also choice to bring personal photocopies or digital prints or other materials that could be collaged onto their blanket strip making it more unique and personalized.
